Divorce
Ending a marriage can be painful, frightening, frustrating, and difficult. Depending on your situation, there are a hundred adjectives that could describe the divorce process. For many women, the thought of being alone is overwhelming. The idea of doing everything alone without any help can be depressing.
However, a divorce is a fresh start. It is an opportunity to change your life and turn something negative into something positive. Because you have been struggling for so long to prevent your marriage from falling apart, you may have forgotten how to be happy and enjoy life.
If you are contemplating a divorce, consider these seven ways that divorce can improve your life.
- Your emotional and physical health improves.
Being in a relationship that is ending is stressful. Arguments and unhappiness can take a toll on your emotional and physical health. Your overall well-being and health improve when you eliminate the stress and tension of a failed marriage from your life.
2. You are open to healthier relationships.
You learn important lessons about what you want in a partner when you go through a divorce. Applying those lessons to future relationships can help you develop healthier and happier relationships in the future.
3. You build strength and self-worth.
The thought of doing everything for yourself may be overwhelming at first. However, as you take care of each task, you realize that you are self-reliant and strong. A divorce can give you the opportunity to realize your self-worth. Your new-found strength will be evident and draw like-minded people into your circle of support.
4. You become a better parent.
It can be difficult to parent when you are always miserable and fighting with your spouse. After your divorce, you spend one-on-one time with your child and can focus on your child’s needs. In many cases, children benefit from the divorce because parents no longer are angry or depressed.
5. You gain your freedom again.
Before your marriage, you were free to come and go as you desired. You did not answer to anyone but yourself. After your divorce, you can enjoy that freedom again. Even if you have children, you may find that on the weekends when dad has the kids, the sense of freedom is exhilarating.
6. You reunite with friends.
When you are married, it is easy to lose touch with friends. Couples tend to spend time with other couples, family members, or their children. After a divorce, you can meet up with friends more often because you do not need to stay at home because your spouse doesn’t like going out or doesn’t like your friends.
7. You have a better relationship with your ex-husband.
You may find that after our divorce, you actually like your husband again. There was a reason why you fell in love with him and married him, but the stress of ending a marriage may have overshadowed those reasons. Many couples find they are better as friends than they were as spouses.
