I’m Heather Quick, owner of Florida Women’s Law Group and I’m here today to talk to you about the top three things women breadwinners need to know before filing for divorce.

What you need to know:

  1. Not all property is treated the same. When we look at dividing marital property, some things are considered premarital.  If you owned property or a business or were putting money into your 401K before you got married, in Florida this is not considered marital property.  A professional forensic accountant can help determine what is considered marital assets and liabilities.
  2. You may have to pay alimony. I know that hurts but it is not a given and there are many factors that need to be considered to determine what you risk may be to pay alimony.  You need to look at what is your risk based on the specific facts of your unique situation.
  3. Treat your divorce like a business transaction. You must do you due diligence.  You cannot go into this emotionally or thinking that you will easily get it all worked.  Know what you are getting into and educate yourself before you begin the process.

When I started Florida Women’s Law Group it was for women only, women breadwinners just like you.  We want to provide you with a strong team to get you the results that you deserve.  Please call us at Florida Women’s Law Group 904-241-0012 and we can schedule a strategy session to review your unique situation and provide you with the best possible solutions.  We are here for you to stand by you and get the best result possible.
